Greater Hope Temple of Christ sits in the middle of the Hullen B. Ward neighborhood, once notorious for its crime rate.

Greater Hope Temple of Christ was birth when Elder Leol Hall Jones became the church at the direction of his grandmother, Evaleena Hall.  He had been ordained a minister and was attending J. C. Tolbert Seminary. In 1986, while Mrs. Hall was severely sick, she called Eld. Hall Jones to her side and said, "Son, it's time for this neighborhood to live. I may not be here to see it, but you need to start a church right in this neighborhood. Son, take back this neighborhood." Eld. Hall Jones did as he had been instructed to do.  He began holding services while he was on break at Mrs. Hall's house. He went back to school for his Spring semester.  He came back home after the semester and started Greater Hope Temple of Christ in the fall of 1987.  Mrs. Hall lived to see Pastor Hall Jones installed as the pastor.  She died seven days later.  The last words she spoke to Pastor Hall Jones were, "Son, you have a Greater Hope. That Hope is Christ. Complete the work He has begun in you.  You will do great things."

Greater Hope Temple of Christ has been instrumental in cleaning up the Hullen B. Ward neighborhood. Several programs were started to help the residents of the H. B Ward neighborhood that include: a job program, an after school program, a youth mentoring program, a summer lunch program, and an abstinence program for young people ages 12-17. The teen pregnancy rate for the H. B. Ward neighborhood has dropped noticeably since the institution of the program in 2000.

Greater Hope Temple of Christ continues to work tirelessly with the neighborhood as its spiritual guide through its various ministries and outreach programs.  Many people of the neighborhood seek counseling from Pastor Hall Jones, although they are not members.  The Greater Hope Temple of Christ family welcomes anyone, members or not to be a part of the monthly fellowship BBQ that they have on the 3rd Saturday of each month. Many lives have been touched at this occasion. The church also hosts an annual Thanksgiving dinner and service for the neighborhood.

Greater Hope Temple of Christ joined the Greater Buelahland Fellowship in 1990.

In 2000, Pastor Hall Jones was voted in as the Vice-President of the West Maddocha Headquarters of the Greater Buelahland Fellowship.

The church stands as a beacon and a light in the once feared neighborhood, praising God everyday for giving them a Greater Hope in Jesus the Christ.
